🍯 Ant Nutrition:

Feeding ants depends on two main types of food: Protein and Sugars. Each type plays an important role in the growth and survival of the colony. Protein helps with the growth of larvae and increases the number of workers. Sugars provide energy for movement and daily activity.

🥩 Protein (For Growth)

Protein is primarily provided to the larvae, as it helps in the development of new workers. Examples:

  • Worms (such as mealworms)
  • Small crickets
  • Dried or fresh insects
  • Very small pieces of tuna (in tiny quantities)

🍬 Sugars (For Energy)

Sugars are essential for all ants, especially the workers, because they provide them with energy. Examples:

  • Honey diluted with water
  • Water + sugar
  • Small drops of sugar syrup

When and How to Feed the Ants?

  • Small colonies: A small drop of sugar solution every 5 days, and after another 5 days, provide a worm.
  • Large colonies: Every 2 to 3 days (depending on consumption and the ant species).

How to serve the food:

  • For the queen inside the test tube: Apply a single drop using a syringe.
  • For colonies in farms: There are dedicated ant liquid feeders and special small dishes for feeding them.

⚠️ Important Warnings

  • Do not overfeed ❌. Excess food molds quickly and causes problems for the colony.
  • Provide small amounts ✔️ and let the ants finish them quickly.
  • Clean up food leftovers immediately 🧼.
  • Do not use food containing preservatives or spices 🚫.

💡 Very Important Note:

During the founding stage (queen + eggs only), they usually do not need direct feeding. The queen relies on her body's energy reserves until the first workers emerge.

🐜 Summary:

Ants need a balance between protein and sugars: protein for growth and sugars for energy. Providing the appropriate amounts of food and maintaining continuous cleanliness will result in a healthier and faster-growing colony.
